Nestle Family Wellness Festival kick-off in Quezon Memorial Circle, Quezon City last July 15, 2023.

Our Nestle Family Wellness Festival Experience

Friday night, my kids were excited for the upcoming Nestle Family Wellness Festival despite storm signal #1 declared in the northern part of the country. We're hoping that the following day we will have good weather in Metro Manila.

On Saturday morning, we woke up as early as 6:00 in the morning. We decided to go and visit the Festival at Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City

They took a bath and had some morning breakfast. We bring a set of umbrellas (the huge one) in case it still rains.

The weather was gloomy when we left home. As we are arriving at the venue at around 9:00 AM, the sun is smiling at us. There were white and dark clouds. A sign it might rain. As we were approaching the activity area, we felt the sun touching our skin and we started to feel the sweat run down our forehead and neck. This is good news not only for us but also to the organizers and people attending the Nestle Family Wellness Festival.

As the Kasambuhay for Good and family wellness partner of Filipinos, Nestlé Philippines shares with the Quezon City local government the goal of raising and nurturing healthy and happy children.

Through the Family Wellness Festival that kicked-off in Quezon City, Nestle Philippines and its brands are mounting a family-centric and activity-filled event that will help educate residents of Quezon City and nearby cities about nutrition, health, and wellness.

There are two Entrances in the venue. The first one is designated to those who registered online. They only need to show the confirmation to the guard on duty. And the other entrance is for walk-ins. So, we lined up in the walk-in area and followed the registration procedure.

At the back of the registration area is the photo booth. The left and right wings have different booths. Each one has a separate tent and activities.

We waited for our friends Janina, Jam, and Monique, who invited us to the event before exploring the whole venue.

First stop.

We visited first the photo booth. One of the staff assisted us on the platform where to stand. Then, he adjusted the camera and started to shoot (4x). The result is amazing.

Next, to our favorite milk brand. The Bear Brand booth. There are lot of people in-line including kids with their Mom and Dad. We decided not to pursue it and look for other booths with shorter lines.

I also asked my kids where they wanted to go and line.

Bear Brand

There is other Nestle brand products participated in the festival such as Nescafe, Koko Krunch, Nido, Chuckie, Booast, Maggi Sarap. Milo, and Nestea.

Chuckie

Chuckie's Snack n' Play Baunin ang Saya, Baunin ang Chuckie. An interactive game where you need your buddy, Chuckie, go to school with chocomilky baon. At the floor, there are four (4) arrows pointing to Up/Down and Left/Right. The player needs to step on the Arrow Up to start the game.

My kids played it well as they moved their feet with their buddy to go to school. With that, they got Chuckie chocolate milk as a prize.

Milo

A basketball free throw by Milo.

Nescafe

The "Hatak Panalo with Nescafe" is one of kids' favorites. It was like a claw machine that you need to pick an item. This time, you will need to get any capsule. Each capsule has a surprise prize.

Each brand gives some prizes / tokens once you complete the task or activity that you have participated in.

Ricci enjoys free taste from Milo.

There are lot of free taste in the area such as Milo, Nestea, if you're thirsty. Koko Krunch also offers free for kids and young at heart. Nescafe coffee is also available.

Nestle Wellness Campus

There is a Nestle Wellness Campus booth where Nutritionist are ready to answer your questions about health and fitness.

Since we are curious about our healthy diet, we registered and attended the counseling 1-on-1. The result of my youngest daughter's BMI is normal. This is good news for us.

As you can see, she (left) listened carefully to how the nutritionist discusses with her the amount of food and what to eat during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Also, the in-between snacks. Just to maintain being a healthy person.

Seminar / Talk

Urban Gardening

Cooking Demonstration

Maggi Sarap Sustansya Cooking Demo

Nestle Kasambuhay / Ka Barangay (Bureau of Plant Industry)

We just registered to Ka Barangay. My daughter, Ricci, joined the "spinning wheel" contest and won! As her prize, she received different types of vegetable seeds (Eggplant, Pechay, Hot Pepper, Squash, and Okra). We will plant the seed in our paso at home. This is ideal for urban farming.

Bike Shredder by Green Antz

Last stop.

We visited the booth selling Nestle products. There is an on-going promotion that for every P200 pesos spent, you will get 1 raffle stub. We bought Bear Brand 840 grams., Milo sachet 1 dozen, 1 box of Milo Whole grain. Nescafe Creamy White (but 10 get 1 promo), Nescafe Classic (buy 42 get 6 promo). With all these items, I think I received 3 or 4 raffle stubs. So just filled up the stub and put it in the drop box. Fingers cross :)

Guess what? When we got home, yours truly received a text message that I won some prize/s. Yahooo!!!

Thank you Nestle Philippines, for this opportunity to attend and experienced the Nestle Family Wellness Festival 2023. We had so much fun as we joined, lined up, and tried different activities and mini-games during the said Festival.

Until next time!

LEGO City Adventures: Build and Protect

How to play and learn with these unlimited games online

In this digital world, what other things can you do in your free time other than watching your favorite movies, tv series, hovering over your social media apps, and watching yt shorts videos or reels? Some will say online reading. But for me, killing time while having fun is the way to go. That’s why playing some games online will do the trick!

As a working individual, I ensure that my job for the day is always finished and completed. Ideally, most of the time I spent is focused primarily on the duties and responsibilities assigned to me in an organization that I work for. If this your typical day-to-day looks like, I would say it's kinda meh! I know it feels more like a boring routine, tiresome even. And If you were like me, I’m sure you're looking for something to fill the gap, get energized and hooked even for just a little while.

As I said earlier, I played games, most particularly online games. I tried searching online and as a LEGO fan this one catches my attention - LEGO City Adventures Build and Protect Game: Free Online City Building. I played LEGO at home and this time, I want to try it playing online.

I launch the game easily without any ads. By the way, I use an Android phone and start playing the game right away. So basically, I just started to meet the characters, for some introductions, and rules.

In LEGO City Adventures Build and Protect. I helped Mayor Solomon Fleck build a LEGO city using various buildings which earn tax revenues that can be spent to help build out the rest of the city. Aside from the Mayor, I also met other characters like Sergeant Sam Grizzled and Lieutenant Duke Detain from the police station, and Chief Freya McCloud from the Fire department.

Money fund (lower left on the screen) needed to dig minipieces of LEGO bricks(lower left on the screen)

The city has six zones or districts. Each zone needs to have 25 buildings for you to build. And you will have an initial fund of 1,000 coins and 300 coins for digging hidden LEGO bricks mini pieces which can be used to build unique building types available in each zone.

Houses, restaurants, cafes, shops, banks, post offices, factories, libraries, ice cream shops, and shopping centers, are some of the examples of building types found in each zone. The zones or districts to unlock the city by filling each zone with 25 buildings namely: :

1. Downtown

2. Borough

3. Suburbia

4. Middletown

5. Uptown

6. Metropolis

Each zone has different and own unique LEGO pieces and building types. Meaning there is no duplicate and repetitive structures. You need to complete the Downtown first and unlock the next zone and so on.

How it works?

With the initial fund allocated, you need to dig for hidden mini pieces which can be used to build unique building types available in each zone.

You will notice from the blueprints, there are "green" and "x" marks. Once Green means you found the right LEGO bricks for the building you're looking for. You can select this and put it in the zone. The "x" marks mean you still need to dig further to find the missing pieces.

The mandatory requirement of each zone it to have at least one police office and fire department in order to protect the citizens.

Downtown is the first zone or district that you need to built 25 buildings on it.

After you filled it up, a new zone/district will open. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate this achievement.

A new set of buildings will display once the new zone is unlocked. Start digging again to find those LEGO bricks / minipieces and build in your site.

How to earn from and keep your money to fund your city?

There are different ways to earn in this game to fund further the development of the city.

1. The LEGO pieces and building types that we constructed have their own earning schedules. Once their schedule is up, it will give money. Collect it from time to time.

2. Put out fires and stop burglaries to earn extra rewards. Rewards vary according to which type of building in involved.

3. You must find the minipieces and you only got 10 chances to look and dig for them. Once you find the mini pieces, the remaining chances can be your chance to find money/coins or maybe not.

As much as I wanted to build my LEGO City, it did not finish each zone/district in one sitting. Meaning, I only play every break or spare time I have. But I am motivated to continue and finish what I have started. Why? I enjoy this game. Though this is just a game, I kind of set a goal for it and I must accomplish this city. Aside from the fun part, I was able to learn some things too Like how to earn and spend money accordingly. Because of this, it seems like role-playing teaches you stuff like building something, city management, and even money matters like investing, ways of planning, and more executing in the game.

At home, also shared the moment playing this with my kids. At first, I thought they would not like it as much as I do. But later on, they are engrossed in it than more me! So, what I did is to guide them, especially the losses if something happens to the buildings. Your money will be going down because of the losses. But I said, no worries, you need to have fun playing it and learn something from it. And they agree!

What's next?

When you have enough LEGO stud savings, you start buying needed minipieces of LEGO bricks you want to put in your city.

Playing LEGO City Adventures Build and Protect Game: Free Online City Building is a category of Real Estate Games in this Money Games available online.

Thank you for reading my blog and feel free to leave comments.

Being a Dad and a Warrior for our Child’s Health

Any father or father figure in the family, would always choose to protect his family first, especially his children. He would want to make sure that his children are safe by providing them comfort and protection from harm. Above all these, a father plays a huge role in his children’s lives, especially in health.

Aside from the care a mother gives, a father also shares the task by supporting their baby’s needs and by taking part in these health activities:

During Pregnancy

Study shows that most women with supportive partners have fewer health problems in pregnancy. The support that a father gives can be associated with positive maternal and child outcomes.

A father’s involvement during pregnancy helps in ensuring that a mother will receive her 1st-trimester prenatal care. It also helps to improve the quality of the parents' relationship to nurture and respond to their child's needs.

Baby’s health care program

Being present during doctor's appointments for vaccinations and check-ups is one way a father can play an active role in his baby's health care. Early encounters with his baby’s pediatricians may start from prenatal consultations to visitation in the newborn nursery.

Taking the time to understand what every child needs during his or her first 1000 days of life is a way of being proactive as a father. Keeping track of immunization records helps the father to be actively involved in a child's health.

Walk the talk

Most children see their fathers as role models. The stronger your relationship with your child, the more influence you’ll have, which could even last a lifetime. Children look to their fathers for strength, encouragement, and support. Both sons and daughters mimic their dads from a very young age. Moreover, fathers usually set the family culture and norms.

That’s why whatever a father believes in can influence the upbringing of a child. Let your kids know you also got vaccinated as recommended by your doctor. As a dad, you can be a good example in the family to support immunization. With the ongoing battle against COVID-19, we can support the current effort for herd immunity by encouraging our whole family to #CallTheShots.

Call the Shots PH is an awareness campaign to protect expectant parents and their children from vaccine-preventable diseases and is brought by MSD in the Philippines. Visit Call The Shots PH FB page (https://www.facebook.com/CallTheShotsPH) to get latest updates on immunization.

How the Size of Your House Affects Your Budget

It’s time to buy a home, and you have all your financials in order. You have an idea of what your dream house looks like, but does that image fall in line with how much you can actually afford in the way of buying a home?

Calculate to Check

How much house you can afford depends on the relationship between your income and mortgage.

Using a house payment calculator will take in many factors to determine what you can afford to pay a month, such as monthly income, monthly debt payments, and credit score.

Utilizing a tool like this allows you to make adjustments and play with numbers to plainly see what price range will not stretch you thin financially.

Look At Your Debts

If you want to afford a bigger house, take a look at your debt-to-income ratio as that affects affordability. This number is your total monthly debt payments divided by your gross monthly income before tax.

Lenders often use the 28/36 rule as a sign of a healthy DTI. This means you won’t spend more than 28% of your gross monthly income on mortgage payments and no more than 36% on total debt payments.

If your DTI is higher than the 28/36 rule, some lenders may still approve you for a loan. However, they can charge higher interest rates and add extra fees like mortgage insurance to protect themselves in the event you default on the loan.

A Good Rule of Thumb

One rule often cited is the 25% rule, that you should never spend more than 25% of your monthly take-home pay (after taxes) on monthly mortgage payments.

This percentage includes principal, interest, property taxes, home insurance, private mortgage insurance, and homeowners association fees, if applicable. With larger homes come other larger bills to consider.

Maintenance is More Costly

Bigger homes will require more upkeep, as there are more opportunities for something needing repair. More than one bathroom heightens the likelihood of burst pipes, a larger lawn will call for more in-depth landscaping needs in terms of frequency and time it takes for routine care.

Though a larger home provides more of living space, it calls for more money to be allocated to care for that living space.

Utilities are Higher

Heating a larger home will take much more power than heating a smaller one. Likewise, paying for water and electricity to flow to a larger amount of rooms ups utility bills.

Be sure you know the typical utility costs for any home you’re looking for, and how they vary by season. You’ll want to factor these costs into your monthly budget.

Property Tax will Differ

Property taxes are not necessarily based on the square footage of your home directly, but rather on the market value of the home.

A larger home will garner a higher market value, and therefore higher property taxes. The market value is determined by a government assessment or appraisal of the worth of the property that is based on a variety of factors like design characteristics, amenities, appliances, and square footage.

10 Essential Tools to have in your Home

10 Essential Tools To Have In Your Home

Every homeowner must keep tools at home they can pick up for specific projects. This toolkit will serve as a “first aid” to prevent further damage to your homes.

Here are 10 essential tools you should keep at home for any sudden repair or maintenance.

Claw Hammer

Clawed hammer is commonly found in repair shops near you. The claw allows it to pull out bent nails on wood and on concrete. Getting a clawed hammer also helps in some minor demolitions like misplaced wooden planks and kitchen mishaps.

Philips Screwdriver

A Philips screwdriver comes in handy when you need to remove or tighten up a screw. It can also be useful for any repairs that you may encounter at home.

Needle Nose Pliers

Pliers are great for fixing or knotting electrical wires such as in your car, an appliance and lighting situation. The perfect types you can get are needle nose pliers, slip-joint or cutting pliers.

Self-retracting Tape Measure

Having a tape measure in your toolbox is essential for when you need to get accurate measurements of the materials you’re working on. Most home repairs need a self-retracting metal tape measure that can make things easier for everybody. You can use this when putting up frames, cabinets or maybe nailing down shelves.

Utility Knife

You should always be ready with a utility knife for cutting, scraping and other tasks that need a sharp blade.

Grit Sandpaper

Plastering areas prior to repair or renovation is necessary when handling leaky faucets or repainting the walls. A sheet of grit sandpaper is a basic plastering tool that can be used to smoothen out rough or uneven surfaces better than a wet sponge.

Metal Hand Saw

A hand saw is a superb choice for general repairs and improvements at your home. It makes quick and clean cuts, and is very easy and light to handle. This is a better option among the several types of mechanical saws that are most commonly used for heavy construction and industrial repairs.

Cordless Drill

A cordless drill can be utilized for purposes such as drilling into walls or driving down screws. Since it’s portable, you can carry it without the danger of tripping over long cords.

Duct Tape

Duct tape is one of the staple house tools among the other essentials found in every toolbox. You can use it for patching wirings, leaks and can also be used as adhesive for different items at home.

Flashlight

When doing major repairs around the house, using a phone flashlight just won’t do. A medium-sized flashlight should do the trick or get a LED lamp so you can see what you’re working on more clearly.

These are only a few house tools that you should have in store for whenever you repair or do minor renovations, especially in old houses.

However, with BellaVita, home repairs won’t be necessary because BellaVita homes offer only well-built properties set in a great neighborhood in areas near you. Find them on Facebook to know updates and available houses for you and your family.

He emphasized and talk about money savings and what the young generations are saving up for. And it falls into three categories such as Travel, business, and Education.

This is one of the reasons Sun Life introduced the investment plan as low as P100 so that we can also allot money to save for our future. Why not? This is a good idea because the amount is very affordable to start investing.

One of the higlights of the seminar is the Market update and projection between 2019 and 2020.

Mr. Michael EnriquezSun Life Chief Investments Officer

Sun Life Asset Management Company, inc. believes the Philippine economy is poised to get better and grow faster in 2020.

"After reviewing the fundamentals, we are confident that the economy is set to significantly improve in the coming year," Sun Life Chief Investments Officer Michael Enriquez said. "While we can still expect 'challenges along the way,. these should be tolerable and may be balanced by the positive developments,"

Among the factors that are expected to boost the Philippine economy next year are tower prices and accelerated government spending. "While inflation fell to a low of 0.8% in October 2019, we expect prices to slowly inch up as we foresee the year 2020 inflation at 2.4%. This figure is much lower than 2018 inflation of 5.21%," Enriquez said.

Sun Life also expects the government to go full force on capital outlays, with the administration having only two years left in its mandate.

Meanwhile, higher gross domestic product (GDP) may also be expected. According to Enriquez, Sun Life looks forward to a 2019 GDP of 5.8% and foresees the 2020 GDP getting stronger at 7%. This is due to a combination of base-effects, the recovery of consumer spending, and a stronger government spending "following the lessons it has learned from the budget delay of 2019."

For currency, Enriquez said that a range of PHP 50.70 to PHP 52.50 to a dollar is possible. "Our year-2019 USD-PHP forecast is at 51.00, and 2020 slightly higher at 52.50," he explained.

On the equities front, while 2019 remains to be a fairly volatile year, Sun Life expects the Philippine Stock Exchange index to end at 8,600 on a best-case scenario. "Our PSEi target for 2020 is at 9,460 with a price-earnings multiple of 18.2 times, white we foresee the earnings to have a growth rate of 10.40%," Enriquez said.

As for external factors that need to be considered, Enriquez said that the United States may experience a mild but temporary recession in the coming months. With the Federal Reserve on a passive QE (quantitative easing) made, he says the US Dollar I 0-year bonds may re-test the recent low of I .5%-1.7%.

"Given these possibilities, we highly encourage investors to stay the course," Enriquez said. "it is only with a term vision and a solid commitment to their investing journey that they can benefit from a better and faster Philippine economy in 2020."
