Maxicare MaxiFest + Guinness World Records of Most People Hugging Soft Toys simultaneously

Maxicare MAXIFEST: Live Your Best Life and an attempt of Guinness World Records of Most People Hugging Soft Toys simultaneously was held at Central Park, SM by the BAY last December 15, 2019.

Maxicare, Premier Healthcare Provider in the Philippines organized the Maxicare MAXIFEST: Live Your Best Life, a series of events organized to help you live your best life through Maxicare Run, Maxicare Market, and an attempt of Guinness World Records for the most number of people hugging a soft toy simultaneously. 

The day was started with Maxicare Run as early as 4:00 AM where runners started to arrive in the venue especially those who were participated in 16KM -run. Yours truly joined the 3K and already there at 5:00 AM. 

After the run, finishers in all categories received their medals and loot bags with cute Maxibear.

After the race/run, each runners received a Maxibear to hug simultaneously. Maxibear will then be donated to the kids of Kythe Foundation in time Christmas.

Maxicare donated an amount of P100,000 to Kythe Foundation during the Maxicare Maxifest.

One of the highlights of Maxicare MaxiFest breaking the record of Guinness World Records of Most People Hugging Soft Toys simultaneously.  

After hugging our bear, the representative from GWR and their staffs have deliberation and  tallied the result based on their criteria.  

To keep the event going, Maxicare awarded to those runners excel in the race run having the best time at the entire duration of the run. Three (3) winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd placer) in each categories (16K, 10K, 5L, 3K, 2K, 200M) received medal of appreciation and token from the organizers.

And afterwards, the moment of waiting and announcement. And it's official. We are able to surpass the previous holder - USA with 399. We have achieved and we are the new holder of  Guinness World Records of Most People Hugging Soft Toys simultaneously for 10 seconds with 654 participants.

This year run will be a #familyfunday as it welcomes Lolos and Lolas to the new category, the 1k Senior Sprint for 60-year olds and above. Aside from the new category, the run will feature the following categories: a 200m dash for 3 to 12-year olds, the easy 3k, the amiable distance of 5k, and

the athletic 10k and 16k. The run is open to all and is expected to excite beginners and seasoned runners alike as it is geared towards engaging and uniting everyone to a single goal: fitness.

All runners will be given a race kit depending on their chosen course which includes a race bib, timing chip, medal, singlet, and loot bag; an additional „finisher shirt‟ will be given to 16k runners. Assembly time is as follows: 200m dash is at 6 am; 3k, 5k, 10k is at 4 am; and 16k is at 3:30 am. Fees are also determined by distance: Php400 for 200m; Php500 for 1k; Php600 for 3k; Php700 for

5k; Php800 for 10k; and Php900 16k. After the race, runners can freshen up and fill hungry tummies with delicious but guilt-free treats at the Healthy Food Station!

Run for Humanity is an upcoming fun run organized by the Philippine Red Cross Pasay City Chapter in line with the celebration of 69th International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Day on August 12, 2018 at Liwasang Ulalim in Cultural Center of the Philippines, Pedro Bukaneg St. Pasay City.

RAAMpage Cycling: Registration for Race Across America Qualifier in the Philippines now open

The world’s toughest bicycle race known to be the Race Across America (RAAM) is now in the Philippines through RAAMpage Cycling and invite athletes join and also to qualify at the prestigious RAAM event this year.

The question is, do Filipino athletes have what it takes to take on what is known as the world’s toughest bike race? 

Race Across America (RAAM) is considered by many to be the most challenging of bike races globally because of its gruelling format – non-stop cycling across 12 states. This July 28, 2018, all athletes and cycling enthusiasts from the Philippines and Asia are welcome to experience RAAM through RAAMpage – the first official Southeast Asian qualifier for RAAM.

As a qualifier recognized and approved by Race Across America, RAAMpage will be embodying the format of RAAM via a time trial race. The difference; however is that RAAMpage will have 6, 12 and 24 hour time trials to make the race friendlier to athletes and cyclists of all levels. Team David’s Salon, the team behind RAAMpage, wanted to ensure that all cycling enthusiasts would have the opportunity to experience RAAM on the level that they are comfortable with. 

“We are extremely excited that Race Across America has recognized our capability – both as athletes and hosts – to put up the first official qualifier in Southeast Asia. We know that RAAM is on the bucket list of many cyclists and we are thrilled to be bringing that experience here and who knows – we may have race finishers who will actually join RAAM” says Carmela Pearson, head of RAAMpage and herself, a second place mixed-relay finisher in Race Across America in 2017.

PH welcomes home Filipino North Pole Marathon finisher - Louie Sangalang

Louie Sangalang, Filipinos national pride and also the FWD Life Philippines representative  conquered the FWD North Pole Marathon, the world’s coolest marathon 2018.

Filipinos have another source of national pride as FWD Life Philippines representative Louie Sangalang conquered the FWD North Pole Marathon, the world’s coolest marathon.  

Multi-sport athlete Louie Sangalang, the first Filipino cancer survivor to conquer the FWD North Pole Marathon, was given a homecoming party by Pan-Asian insurer FWD Life Insurance after successfully completing the marathon held on April 16. Sangalang’s triumph is an amazing testament to the resilience of the Filipino spirit, having finished the race in 11 hours and four minutes amid severe weather conditions.  

62 participants from 23 countries took part in the marathon, which marked the second year of FWD’s title sponsorship and the first region-wide participation of 11 FWD-sponsored runners, dubbed FWD Team Asia. The entire trip to the North Pole was approximately two weeks long as participants needed to acclimatize and train before the race. FWD Team Asia raised over USD32,000 as they completed the race for the organizations they support, including Special Olympics, the largest sports organization for people with intellectual disability.  

The marathon participants ran on a 42-kilometer path in a terrain with temperature ranging from negative 30 to negative 33 degrees centigrade. Adding to the challenge of the race was the icy path which was in parts soft and powdery and sometimes solid and slippery. “Around 75% to 80% of the course was in snowy, uneven terrain which made it difficult to find firm footing. As a result, we had to walk on some parts of the race course,” Louie said. “We had great weather with clear skies and minimal wind. However, the extreme cold made the race very challenging.” 

Louie also said that the hardest part of the race was managing the cold and running at nighttime with the midnight sun. However, despite the highly challenging marathon path and the freezing weather, not once did he ever think of giving up during the course of the race. He faced the challenges before him, embraced them as he was determined to live his life to the fullest!
